Chroma key in MovieMaker: Image Overlay

It inserting the chroma chroma (del ingles Chrome key) audiovisual technique is widely used in film and television and photography, which involves the replacement of a fund for another by computer. This is done because it is too costly and unworkable cutout characters to complete background or frame by frame by

Through the magic of Chroma Key (recommended link) can superimpose a character on a background scene that acts quickly and easily. Realtime complex generated illusions in which objects or people in a recording studio seem to be in any place or landscape, real or fantastic.

The domestic level, with acceptable results, you can play and explore this technique with different software tools. We explain the idea of this technique and how to apply it MovieMaker.

Suppose we want to use a background like this (photo video):

We add to this scene an object, for example a bucket, we have generated as separate image with a uniform background blue (generalmente using blue green, although you can set any color):

The idea is to use the blue color selected for our Croma as transparent color and overlaying the two images.

The area occupied by blue will see the bottom. Namely, we get the following picture:

Can we do it with the linear video editor MovieMaker?

It allows you to program editor video effects with XML files. For this, only need to write a very short code is added to the gallery transitions MovieMaker, as described aquí in Spanish or English aquí (original source ) in which we suggest the following code to copy a file we will call: bluescreen.xml

This code is in the links above

For MovieMaker editing software recognizes the transition effect that we generate just save it to a location where you locate. Normally the program is usually located in a directory like:

“C:\Program Files Movie Maker ”

In my system, MovieMaker is in:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6”

How to locate in our case where this directory is?

If we take the mouse over the icon we use to start the program and press the right button, a menu in which we select is displayed “properties”

chroma_buscarMovieMaker

This we must open a property sheet with different tabs. In putting “Shortcut”, see an entry that says “log in” with the name of the home directory MovieMaker

The file must be in this directory into a subdirectory (folder) called “Shared” and within this in another subdirectory called “AddOnTFX”. If these directories do not exist previously we generate.

In my case, filename with its absolute location is therefore

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6SharedAddOnTFXbluescreen.xml”

Once installed the file, MovieMaker software installed in our code gallery transitions available and is ready for use.

In the video below we see the installation process
