How to Make a Morphing two images [with Squirlz Morph]

After seeing what a morphing, we will perform a complete example, from downloading the software to the production of the image file with the sequence calculated. In this example, let the basic sequence for creating a “morphing” between two images.

There are many applications that facilitate the task of creating these visuals, many of them free of charge. An interesting selection is available aquí. In particular for the example we will perform I downloaded Squirlz Morph 2.1, occupies little (1,4 Mb) and provides options for generating video files besides, flash animations and GIF format.

In general, the philosophy is similar in all programs;

  • Incorporate images
  • Define control points
  • Define rate and duration of the transformation
  • Generate animation

First we will open two images of equal size.

Supported formats in this case are jpg and bmp. If images are not the same size can be converted from the program itself, although it is advisable to perform this conversion from a more complete photo retouching software.

To open the image files select the icon, or using the File menu will access this utility. You can also drag the image from the folder that is to workspace application.

The next step is to indicate the number of images that will constitute the animation. For example if we want lasting four seconds and we 25 fps (framerate) need 100 frames for animation.

The first step to generate the morphing, is to indicate the control points which will guide the transformation.

Choosing the most appropriate points properly requires training and experience that we acquire through trial and error; the results depend critically on the number and arrangement of checkpoints that we include.

In our example we have selected a few of them are outlined in the following images:

The colors serve to easily identify the correspondence between the control points of the two images. Actually in the said program does not use, just draw small circles of white.

We can imagine our transformation more clearly if we draw a line linking checkpoints and we imagine that these points move dragging the lines. Our animation will reflect this movement.

To add or remove control points use the icons with symbols “+” and “-“, selecting with the mouse position in which you want to add, or in which the dot is to eliminate.

Control points entering one of the images are automatically generated in the other, and both can be moved by dragging with the mouse, and selecting the new position.

After the addition of checkpoints completed, and adjusted their positions, you can see an approximate view of the result we get in a window “preview”.

If the result is accepted, we will save work in one of the formats:

The format is very useful if VISEO morphing is used in a video production, being edited with other tools later.

Another interesting format is “animated gif”, which can be easily integrated into a blog or website.

To optimize space models are other tablets; format incorporates “flash” with which they can be reduced by up to 90% the size of the files.

When we save the file define the number of frames per second we want to have in the animation:

Although the process is simple, There are different parameters that enforcement can substantially expand the possibilities of altering the results of the morphing.

These parameters allow you to control the transformation in more detail but complicate the use of the program and therefore should not throw us in the initial learning; the most important thing is to design strategies for transforming images, determining that a better image areas correspond to the other.

We gain experience in the form of government transformation through checkpoints.

Do you try to encourage a “morphing”?
