Many of the things we can see in a science fiction movie actually end up with the passage of time.
One of the most interesting ideas that I could see in the movie “Prometheus” was the use of a small “drones” sphere-shaped allowing exploration, automatically, the environment in which the astronauts were.
This allowed exploration to determine the geometry of the structures that were, providing guidance and discovery of new galleries and rooms.
The tango project is developing technology that will allow dynamically capture the environment in which a mobile phone is to make a three-dimensional model of the same real-time.
The goal of Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.(Google)
The prototype under development takes 250.000 readings per second, processing them to identify the position of each space and generate a model based on “voxels” precision. Applications that have only begun to glimpse enable us “furnish the floor” making a plan in just a few moments. We just walk inside to determine the necessary steps. An undetermined number of applications will allow to get high performance technology.
Project Tango is a focused exploration of what might be possible in a mobile platform. It is not part of Android today. We are still in the early days as this technology begins the transition out of research labs into the hands of millions of people. (Google)
The development of these prototypes in the near future will allow the incorporation of these facilities in domestic environments.
